John is a lead consultant with VCI and combines strong practical experience in change management and engagement with a background and training in business evaluation and analysis of growth strategies specifically in relation to the resources industry. He is currently consulting across met coal, iron ore and diversified mining players in growth, market positioning and restructuring.
Before joining VCI John worked in mainland China and Singapore to help manage the transition of Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s marketing function to a central hub. Whilst managing this change he also led analysis into implications of pursuing differing price and offering alternatives with regards to iron ore sales. Further he supported business development efforts in China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea and South East Asia.
Whilst based in Rio Tinto’s Perth office John facilitated and coordinated change workshops across Australian, North American, South American, Asian and UK based business units. This involved 20 Executive level workshops over 18 months and the coordination of 200 change workshops that addressed 3,000 participants.
He has been involved in business analysis and financial support along the entire value chain of the resources industry from exploration, studies, commissioning of new mines, mine, port and rail operations as well as coordinated evaluation of Greenfield and Brownfield expansion proposals. He honed his financial and analysis skills whilst working in analytical roles for Macquarie Bank, Orix International and Arthur Andersen.
John graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from UWA and also holds an Australian CPA designation
