Gideon is a partner of Virtual Consulting International that was founded in 1994. Gideon started his consulting career as an internal consultant for Anglo American Corporation in the 1990s. From there he migrated to the U.S.A. and since 1994 worked as a consultant focusing on strategic positioning and large scale change projects. His specialty is applying Scenario Planning to leverage competencies, optimize asset utilization and to structure appropriate growth strategies. He has been consistently and progressively dealing with business issues in a broad range of industries where he acts as an strategy specialist project lead. His unique Scenario Planning process has become a benchmark for strategic planning and large scale change management.
Recent projects where he was contracted as consulting project lead include the industry repositioning of Rio Tinto’s Iron Ore business in Perth, Australia, Peabody Energy’s strategic repositioning out of St. Louis, AngloGold Ashanti in Johannesburg’s scenarios to establish long term risk profile and Cleveland Cliffs’ strategy. He also successfully completed the development of BHP Billiton’s global Shared Business Services organization from Melbourne Australia, and the commercialization strategies for HiSmelt. Gideon was also contracted to reposition Rio Tinto’s Business Development division with an acquisition budget of multiple billions of dollars p/a.
In the USA, Gideon just completed a strategic growth project for Peabody Energy working with Cleveland Cliffs on their Business Growth strategies. All these projects included the utilization of scenario planning and resulted in aggressive mergers and acquisitions plays.
